Parent Contact Cards

From Barbara Hartmann, an eighth grade teacher at Howell Middle School in Victoria, Texas:

"I have my students fill out an index card the first day of school, with a line drawn down the middle dividing the card vertically. On one side they write their class schedules and on the other side of the line they write their home phone numbers, addresses, parents names and work numbers and birth dates. I keep these in a small file box. Whenever I phone or have a conference with a parent, I write the date and a brief description of what was said on the back of the card. This way I have a record of any contact with the parents that has occurred during the year."
